The Winter and Spring Academies, baseball or softball, are The Battery’s most successful programs.

Classes are held once a week for fifteen weeks. (Spring Academy is six weeks.)

Winter Academy is a comprehensive 15-week all skills academy. It is designed for the serious player who wants to improve their skills through little league, modified, junior varsity and varsity. Hundreds of players have attended this academy since 1986 and gone on to play at the college level, while several others have gone on to play in the pros.

The Battery staff of professional instructors provides a low student to coach ratio to ensure each player gets individual attention and max reps. Players are led through the same drills and techniques used in professional baseball and spring training. The 15-week academy provides the type of intense, professional instruction that young players don’t normally have access to. Drills that reinforce fundamentals, combined with 15 weeks (or 6 weeks in the Spring) of repetition improves each player’s skillset and allows them to begin the year in mid-season form.

These are not a lecture clinics.

Players are moving, active, and improving the whole time. Players are broken into small instructor-led groups of 4- 6 with others their age or ability level. During a session, they work through a concentrated circuit of stations that teach specific areas of hitting, defense, or baserunning.

The academies covers:

  • Hitting
  • Bunting
  • Base running
  • Outfield
  • Infield
  • Catching
  • Pitching
  • Teamwork
  • Agility drills, and
  • The mental approach to the game.

Every session includes offense (4 batting cages and hitting stations), defense, agility drills, and baserunning. Sessions are cumulative so that over the 15 weeks (or 6 weeks) period we cover all aspects of offense and defense.

Each academy accepts a limited number of students so that every player gets individual attention.

Winter Academy sessions start every year on the last weekend of October and end by mid-February, weather permitting, before high school and little league tryouts. The timing of the program is perfect for preparing young players for the spring season ahead.

Spring Academy sessions start in February.

Space is limited so early registration is encouraged. Check the schedule above and send your registration for the next session.

I want to say thank you for offering the winter softball academy. My daughter had tryouts for JV at her school and was pulled up to varsity.   She was so happy that I told her hard work, dedication, and great training did this for her.  We will see you for private lessons and winter training next winter.  What a great program you offer for the girls and we have told so many parents. Thanks again.
