Ten Battery Students Make the All-Greater Rochester Softball Team

September 24, 2010

Ten softball players who train at The Battery year round have made the 16-player team. The All Greater Rochester team was selected by the Democrat and Chronicle sports staff based on voting by Section V coaches.

BRITTANY GRAGE
School: Junior/Pittsford Mendon
Position: Pitcher – Player of the Year
Highlights: Power pitcher led Vikings (23-3) to first Section V Class A crown and state runner-up finish.
Stats: Team MVP had 16-1 record; 0.85 ERA; 186 strikeouts in 135 innings; .367 batting average.
Academics: 90. Next: Another year left to secure a scholarship.

MACKENZIE CLEARY
School: Freshman/Fairport
Position: Pitcher
Parents: Jim and Marci Cleary.
Highlights: Tossed first varsity no-hitter vs. Webster Schroeder; grand slam against Canandaigua.  Section V Class AA Tournament MVP; first-team All-County.
Stats: 152 strikeouts; 1.79 ERA; .475 batting average.
Academics: 94 average. Next: Basketball season.

JEN CONSAUL
School: Senior/Churchville-Chili
Position: Pitcher
Parents: Rick and Barb Consaul.
Highlights: Broke own school record with 18 strikeouts in a game for the Saints (14-6); named first-team all-county.
Stats: 0.66 ERA with 246 strikeouts; batted .460.
Academics: 95 average. Next: Canisius College to study Digital Media Arts.

ALYSSA DIMARTINO
School: Senior/Northstar Christian
Position: Pitcher
Parents: John and Erin DiMartino.
Highlights:  Private-Parochial league player of the year was also Section V Class D2 tournament MVP for the Knights (15-3), who lost 1-0 to state-finalist Bolivar-Richburg in the Class D state-qualifier.
Stats: 0.25 ERA with 237 strikeouts and 2 perfect games; hit .540.
Academics: 98 average. Next: Liberty University with plans to major in nursing and play softball.

ALISSA DIXON
School: Sophomore/Webster Schroeder
Position: Pitcher
Parents: Valerie and Doug.
Highlights: Fourth-year player and four-time, first-team All-County pick led squad to Monroe County Division I title as team MVP.
Stats: 17-5 record, 0.92 ERA, 236 strikeouts in 144 innings, 7 shutouts; 4 no-hitters. She batted .392.
Academics: 96 average. Next: Should crack 1,000 career strikeouts next spring (has 896).

RILEY JOHNSON
School:
 Sophomore/Greece Athena
Position: Shortstop
Parents: Curt and Colleen Johnson.
Highlights: Went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and five RBI vs. Greece Olympia.
Stats: Batted .444 and had a .617 slugging percentage with 22 RBI; .909 fielding percentage.
Academics: 3.8 GPA

SHELBY PERRY
School: 8th Grade/Brockport
Position: Catcher
Parents: James and Jennifer Perry.
Highlights: Monroe County Division II regular season champions; Section V Class AA No. 1 seed. First-team All-Monroe County. In a game as a seventh-grader she threw out six baserunners.
Stats: .391 average with 15 RBI and five doubles.
Academics: 92 average

KAYLEE QUIGLEY
School: Senior/Gananda
Position: Pitcher
Parents: Daryl and Dacia Quigley.
Highlights: Won Section V Class C championship and advanced to state semifinal. 2010 Wayne County co-Player of the Year.
Stats: 17-1 with a 0.93 ERA and 149 strikeouts. Led Gananda with six home runs and 40 RBI, batted .446.
Academics: 85 average. Next: MCC, to major in physical education.

MADDIE REESE
School: Junior/Pittsford Mendon
Position: Second Baseman
Parents: Joseph and Amy Reese.
Highlights: Winning sectionals and making it to the Class A state final. 4-time first-team All-Monroe County.
Stats: .418 average and .506 on-base percentage.
Academics: 3.6 GPA.  Next: Verbally accepted scholarship from the University of Arkansas; plans to study kinesiology and biomechanics.

VICKI SWITZER
School:
 Senior/Webster Schroeder
Position: Third Baseman
Parents: Rosemary and Bob (deceased) Switzer.
Highlights: The Monroe County Division I Player of the Year. Named Section V Tournament MVP after winning sectionals in 2007.
Stats: Batted .447 with a .750 slugging percentage for the divisional champion Warriors (17-6).
Academics: 3.2 GPA. Next: Gannon University, where she plans to study nursing.

Four students are repeat All Greater Rochester picks: Jen Consaul, Alissa Dixon, Maddie Reese and Vicki Switzer.
