Battery co-owners John, Grace and Fred Tillinghast, received on October 19, 2010, the Business in the Spotlight Award from the Gates Chili Chamber of Commerce.
The Battery received the award in recognition of the many contributions made in the development of young people in our community. The award is the second presented in 2010 to an area business.
Hundreds of Gates and Chili youngsters have participated in The Battery’s programs since it opened in 1983. Through the years, many excelled at Gates Chili, Churchville Chili and Wheatland Chili high schools,and several received baseball and softball scholarships, including Churchville Chili pitching ace Jen Consaul who signed with a Division 1 school in 2010.
