Danny Vacco and Dave Johnson named to All Academic Baseball Team 2003

Two Oswego State baseball players were honored for both their athletic and academic accomplishments. Junior Danny Vacco (Greece Olympia) and sophomore Dave Johnson (Churchville-Chili) were named to the Verizon Academic All-District baseball team. The players were selected to the District One Team that encompasses New York and New England. To be eligible, players must have a 3.20 grade point average and be a starter or key contributor to their teams. The two Oswego State players now move to the national ballot and a chance of becoming Verizon Academic All-America.

Danny Vacco has started all 24 games for the Lakers as a second baseman. He is batting .242, while scoring 17 runs with 11 runs batted in. Defensively he is second on the team in assists with 56 and has a fielding percentage of .949. The junior is majoring in Physics and has a grade point average of 3.92.

Dave Johnson made the team as a catcher. He has also started in all 24 games. The sophomore is second on the team in batting with an average of .333 and is tied for second in runs batted in with 18 and third in runs scored. He has a 3.67 GPA and is majoring in Chemistry. Dave also made the All SUNY Athletic Conference Second Team.

Danny and Dave have trained at The Battery and play for the The Battery ABC team as second baseman and catcher.
