Testimonials and Accolades From Coaches

Dear Coach T,

I felt compelled to write you a letter thanking you for turning out and training fantastic baseball talent from your area! Not only have your student-athletes been trained properly and effectively... they have been the best kids, with manners and superior students.

Thanks gain and keep up the good work.

Take good care,

Frank Paino
Baseball Coach
Oswego State University

(Coach Paino has been at the helm of the Laker baseball program since 1987. He is a 1981 graduate and former player for Coastal Carolina where his teams made four regional and two NCAA World Series appearances. At Oswego, his teams have been invited to post season play in 10 of his 19 years. He has won eight SUNYAC West and three SUNYAC Championship titles. Paino has been named the SUNYAC Coach of the year in 1988, 1989, 1996 and 2001.)

Mr. John Tillinghast and I have been acquaintances for nearly 20 years. His dedication to young men and the game of baseball prompted him to open an indoor facility many years before it became fashionable. His adventure and dream became a reality as he opened the only indoor winter baseball facility within 200 miles of Rochester.

Since that time we have developed a strong and honest friendship through the game of baseball as John has recommended numerous young baseball players to Ithaca College as fine student athletes. He has never recommended a young man who was not capable of succeeding in the classroom as well as on the diamond.

Having been in baseball coaching for over thirty years, I can honestly attest to the number of inflated recommendations sent our way throughout the years. It is refreshing and comforting to me and many other college coaches knowing that Coach T. understand young men and their capacity to contribute at different levels as they proceed through the college selection process.

Sincere and accurate information offered to each family and college coach is not always provided from other individuals in a similar profession. Not so with Coach T. This form of integrity places John Tillinghast and The Battery in the forefront of those seeking the best place to learn the game of baseball from honorable men.

George Valesente
Baseball Coach
Ithaca College

(A 1966 graduate of Ithaca College, he spent four years playing professional baseball before returning to his alma matter. Coach Valesente is in his 27th season as the Bombers head coach. His teams have won two national championships, nine World Series and 22 NCAA post season appearances. His teams never had a losing season and have won nearly 70% of their games. He has coached 19 All-Americans and 27 players who signed professional contacts. He was named coach of the year ten times.)

"John Tillinghast and I have been friends for over twenty years, coaching little league teams and co-coaching all star teams. In my thirty plus years of umpiring all brands of baseball, ranging from youth to college to professional, I have never met a person more dedicated to the game of baseball than he is.

A few years ago, John won the Don Fischer Award which is presented annually by the Rochester Umpires Association to an individual who makes and outstanding contribution to the game of baseball.

John, better known as Coach T, has sponsored and coached his Battery team in the ABC League for twenty years. The ABC League is the best brand of amateur baseball played in Rochester during the summer. This league consists of college, post college and some ex-professional players.

He always sprinkle in some high school players with veterans and they are always very competitive. His main goal is geting his ball players ready for the next level, taking young talent and getting them prepared for college baseball. His players always conduct themselves properly because Coach T does not tolerate them being disrespectful.

Teaching fundamentals of baseball and incorporating life skills is very important to him. Baseball needs more people like John Tillinghast."
